There is definately a revolution going on! LCHF is spreading, growing and increasing worldwide!

Here is a South African blogger that has discovered the wonders of eating more fat and less carbs. Erlier her motto was: “Fat was the enemy, carbs your friend…” But not anymore!


Dieting has been a lifestyle, a constant loosing battle of hunger, cravings and failure. Time and time again, month after month, year after year. Until she finally gave up! Until now!

Now she sees not only possibilities, but also results and at the same time eats good food that is filling. At the samte time her environment are raising their eyebrows and questioning her choices.

This is a good and inspiring read!

    I am a GP who has been working in rural practices for the past 30 years.
    I was born 57 years ago into a family who loves food and fruit, but who also have the tendency to gain weight as the years go by. As a teenager, I was lean and healthy, but from my mid-twenties I started to slowly gain weight up to a stage where patients would start calling me the big, fat doctor or teddy bear ( by the more considered patients).

    4 Years ago, after a very festive summer holiday, I, with a shock, discovered that I had Diabetes. I started taking Metformin and also started on a low fat, low calorie diet. I was able to control my Diabetes. After 6 months I lost 10 kilos, but still was taking medication. Due to continuous cravings I slowly but surely gained weight again to back where I started.

    At the beginning of this year, I realised that I was a textbook example of the Metabolic Syndrome:
    Grossly Overweight (126 kg).
    Hypertension: on 3 different drugs.
    Type II Diabetes on two types of tablets and still not well controlled.
    Suffering from sleep apnoea, resulting in Chronic fatigue. Sleepy.

    I also suffered from an irregular heart beat called Atrial Fibrillation.

    At that stage I told my wife that I was not going to live to an age exceeding 65 years, due to all my medical problems.

    In March of this year I watched Carte Blanche, where I heard professor Tim Noakes telling about his experience with the Low Carb diet.
    I immediately realised that this was the solution I was looking for.
    For the next few weeks I researched all the available diets and decide on the Dukan diet, because it was simple and no weighing or calculating needed. Also an easy way to maintain your weight on a maintenance plan.

    Me and my wife decided to start on the diet just after an upcoming family wedding. We also challenged some family members with weight problems to join us. ( It is always good to get some partners to join, to support and encourage each other.)

    We started on the 1st of May, of this year. We were determined and motivated ( our minds were focussed on the target. Very important)

    After 3 days I could feel the difference. I had more energy and felt on a high. I didn’t feel hungry and my cravings disappeared. My wife didn’t feel as good as I did and was more tired in the beginning.
    After a week I lost 3 kg and that motivated me.

    As the weight came down, things started to happen:
    My blood sugar dropped and I could wean myself from all the anti-diabetic tablets.
    My blood pressure dropped and I had to stop some of my tablets.
    I stopped snoring and no more Sleep Apnoea. That meant that I am more alert and not so sleepy and tired. ( Even if I only have a few hours sleep).
    I stopped my cholesterol tablets.
    I stopped my tablets to prevent Gout.
    Even my Atrial Fibrillation disappeared

    At the end of 3 months I had lost 21 kilograms.
    I felt 15 years younger.

    Blood results: Blood sugar remained normal. Cholesterol and triglycerides dropped. Kidneys: not affected.

    Since I have been on this diet I could share my experience with many friends and family and could see the changes it brought into their lives and health.
    I can also stay on this healthy way of eating for the rest of my life and I now have a tool to control my weight without a continuous craving or hunger.

    My view on Healthy Foods changed radically:

    I started reading books and articles on the subject and can’t believe that this information is not accepted by the majority of Nutrition Experts.
    I believe that it is more important to treat the cause of metabolic syndrome, instead to just treat the consequences.

    I now can offer an alternative option to my patients who is suffering from the same problems I did. I give them a chance to choose .

    Important: This diet is not for all patients.
    This diet doesn’t cut out all Carbs and Fruits, but restrict
    One should do the diet with the knowledge of your doctor

    Problems I have in my practice.

    There has been a definite increase in the amount of Obese people and strangely enough more so in the lower income groups.

    The challenge is to give them a solution. I hope I will get somebody to help me.

    The solution is NOT :
    Low calorie diets
    Diets where you have to weight or calculate.
    Too complex or unspecific. Too many options.
    Too expensive.
    Fat free and highly refined carbs

    Simple with exact guidelines and amounts.
    Affordable. (Eggs)
    Natural way of suppressing cravings, eg proteins and fats.
    Availability at fast food outlets.
    Fast results of loosing weight.
