'tips'
When I was recently in the US, I bought this chocolate. It was awesome, totally wonderful, what I would call *a chocolate experience*.
I bought this one package, it lasted a week, yet I thought I was nibbling at it all the time. But a tiny piece every now and then was just perfect.
Wish I could buy it over here...
Should or shouldn't you use sunscreen?
I have a few sensitive spots on my face, due to over exposure to the African sun for many years in my childhood. So I, now, am using sunscreen on those spots. Not so happy about it, but it's too late...
However I do not use sunscreen on my children, instead we protect with clothes and hats. Don't forget about the importance of the sun and vitamin-D either! So exposure everyday is good too, just not for too long, and not to allow for burning!
Dr John Briffa has som excellent writings on the subject. I can warmly recomend you to read and learn from these.
Another reason to avoid sunscreens
If you know you are going to be extremely over exposed then I would opt for an organic sunscreen!
Then I go for a 100% cocoa chocolate. I don't think any of my friends enjoy it! But for me it works just fine. A small, tiny piece and it's enough! AND my craving for chocolate is gone! Does not happen so often, but every now and then on an odd occasion! Usually after an evening of berries in my life! :)
Weekend difficulties:
- Friday evening snacks - chips, popcorn, salty nuts, alcohol.
- Sweets for the kids, temptation.
- Fast foods / junk food - easy, quick, effortless.
- Afternoon coffee or tea with friends.
- Dinners.
- Sunday lunch and coffee with family.
LCHF weekend tips:
- Eat extra fat with your lunch and dinner so that when 'others' take out the chips or nuts you are not hungry or tempted. Maker sure you have raw nuts at home, in case. Salted nuts are still better than chips or popcorn.
- If your kids eat candy on w.ends then shop for them AFTER you have had your meal. When your tummy is feeling full it won't want all the junk out there.
- If you want chocolate, go for the 90%-100% cocoa, still carbs but better than other chocolates. This obviously depends on how 'sugar sensitive' your body is!!!
- Going to friends for coffee, offer to bring a plate of something: Cheese, chocolate balls made from coconut oil, coconut flakes and 90-100% chocolate, or berries with whipped cream.
- Dinner with friends or family? Inform them that you are eating LCHF, changed lifestyle. They don't need to fix anything extra for you but that you will be avoiding the carbs and hope to just have some extra butter on your plate.
- Children always choose sweet before other things. Meet half way, sparkling water with berries instead of soda, barbecue instead of pizza...
- Red wine is a good alternative, then dry white. Beer is a total no no! That's the equivalent of drinking a loaf of white bread!
- Vodka, mint, lime, soda water and 2 frozen raspberries is an alternative for a summer drink...
Enjoy the weekend and have a fat and healthy one! :)
Here in Sweden, cream is cream and milk is milk. It took quite a (long) while before realizing that in the USA. There cream is milk and milk is milk - at least when it comes to the white liquid I wanted in my coffee. Half and half, was also a name.
Then I found out that I had to ask for HEAVY cream, not full fat cream, pure cream, 40% cream, pouring cream, whipping cream that is runny or any other names I used to attempt to be understood what I really wanted - without being brought milk or half and half ! :)
Anyway, now I am enjoying a cup of coffee with proper cream! :) *Me like*... It's enough with just that during the afternoon, fills me and I can easily wait till dinner then before eating.
After a breakfast rich in fat and protein I hardly ever need much lunch, at least not if I am going to be eating a dinner later on.
For me this was perfect: Avocado, mayonnaise and seaweed salad! Very yum and filling...
Coconuts are available all over. I love that! They are just so good for you, in all ways... Google coconuts!
Filling and healthy in one! The way I like it...
I just love these! As a snack or with different dips, to soup or with a main meal...
Use a good and tasty (high fat) cheese. Either slice it in slices and fold double or put small heaps of grated cheese on a baking sheet on oven tray. You can even spice them if you like with paprika powder, peri peri or peppar - use your favorite spice!
Grill high up in oven @ 200°c for 5-10 min. Keep an eye on them and when they start turning brown, remove from oven.
Enjoy!
Manufactors want us to beleive we are saving money, that some foods are cheaper! BUT they are fooling us consumers!!! The cheaper the foods, the more weird things they contain. MSG (E-621) is one that we def. want to avoid! It's a poison. Kids should NEVER eat anything with MSG!!!!
But manufactors are realizing that we (the consumer) are becoming more aware and avoid foods with MSG! So therefore they 'change' the wording! Instead they use 'yeast extract' but it's all same same!
Rread labels on the things you buy, especially meats, cold meats (ham etc), soups, sauces, all kinds of stock, marmite....
Good luck!
A clear favorite in my fridge is Hellmans mayounnaise! It is so good! Low in carbs, in fact the lowest I have seen! No colourants, and with great taste! :)
Saturday again, here are some good LCHF tips to inspire you this weekend!
- Eat a good breakfast and remember to add at least 2 tbsp butter to whatever you eat!
- Keep focus on your choices during the day!
- Some sort of 'everyday excercise' for e.g. a walk, gardening, cleaning or 50 situps!
- Buy a jar of organic coconutoil - an investment in your health!
- Surround yourself with friends that are positive and that don't ciritisize your choices!
- If you buy sweets for your kids stick to pure chocolate and or nuts, avoid all strong colours in sweets!
- Buy organic eggs - they are by far the best choice for you, nice for Sunday breakfast!
- Only eat one portion of food and eat more fat to the food - that is what fills you up. If you are still hungry afterwards it was too little fat!
- Be proud, look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are in control of your life, your body and what you eat. You are good at what your are doing!
- Enjoy not only this Saturday, but the whole weekend, live life, feel healthy and feel the extra energy you are gaining from the choices of food you are making! There is a big difference! :)
