Did you also learn as a child not to waste food! Not to throw away but to eat up instead?
It’s taken me many years of practice to be able to leave food on my plate and to ‘dare’ to throw it away. What is the alternative? To over eat? To eat as an in-between-snack later? To add to the next dinner?
And what about your kids plates? Who eats up their leftovers? You?
